Anyone living close to the US- Canadian border will have found some time to visit their neighboring country. US citizens sometimes come back shocked at the high Canadian prices while their counterparts will spend most of their vacation money on inexpensive US goods. Even larger items such as cars are more expensive in Canada, even if they’re made on Canadian soil. There are several reasons for this, from labor wage differences to tax codes, but the bottom line is consumer goods in Canada are more expensive than in the US.
Because of the price disparity, many Canadians have taken up the habit of shopping across the border. Some families have a designated day of the week or month to go over to the US and buy their groceries in bulk. Even with the cost of transportation and other purchases, these Canadians still end up saving more than if they had bought their goods back home.
For Canadians who are tired of this game, there is unfortunately no sign that prices in their home country will go down anytime soon. For as long as people continue to buy, prices will still stay at the same level. Even if prices go up, most people won’t have a choice but to continue purchasing them out of convenience. Only a well thought out budget can help them save up for their own personal savings.
